Jets’ Sheldon Richardson charged with resisting arrest, multiple traffic
O’FALLON, Mo. • New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was charged Thursday with resisting arrest and various traffic violations in connection with an apparent high-speed road race on Highway 40 (Interstate 64) on July 14, authorities said.

A fully loaded semi-automatic weapon was found in the auto, a 2014 Bentley, police said, and there was “a very strong odor of burned marijuana” emanating from the vehicle, the St. Charles County prosecuting attorney’s office said in a statement posted to its website. According to the report, police also said two other men and a 12-year-old child were in the vehicle and that everyone in the auto smelled like marijuana. He is scheduled to appear in court in Missouri on October. 27, two days following New York’s game against the New England Patriots.
The news of Richardson’s arrest came about an hour after Richardson met with reporters for the first time since his four-game suspension was handed down. He was not charged for the gun possession or marijuana. Perhaps we are now getting an indication of the kinds of things Richardson meant, even if this particular incident happened a couple of weeks after the drug suspension occurred. A conviction for resisting arrest is punishable by up to one year in jail, and/or a fine of up to $1,000.00. I don’t want this to take away from what the team is trying to accomplish. The St. Louis Dispatched also reported that, in addition to resisting arrest, Richardson is charged with “exceeding the speed limit, following too closely, failing to use lights and failing to obey a traffic signal”. I just chose not to.
An hour after vowing to stay out of trouble, Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was back in it. That’s just that. It’s that simple.
