Jets’ Smith out 6-10 weeks after punched in jaw by teammate
Reports surfaced Tuesday afternoon that the team would be without quarterback Geno Smith for 6-10 weeks after he was attacked by a fellow Jet in the locker room.

Enemkpali (EN-um-PAL-ee), an outside linebacker in his second season, has been released by the Jets, according to Bowles. During the altercation, the former sixth-round draft pick punched the QB and broke his jaw. You don’t walk up to a man and punch him in the face.
The Jets, quite promptly, released Enemkpali and picked up cornerback Javier Arenas. “It’s something very childish that sixth graders could have talked about and it had no reason happening. He has a broken jaw, fractured jaw, it requires some surgery”.
“It’s something that happened in the locker room and we’re dealing with it internally and that’s what we’ll do”.
You can see the picture of Smith below, which was posted just after Bowles’ press conference. “If they want to tell you what happened, they’ll tell you what happened”.
The charge was later reduced to simple battery and Enemkpali received 13 months of probation and 32 hours of community service.
Smith, who was having a good training camp, will be sidelined for the rest of the summer and likely for the first few games of the season. This is not the first time Enemkpali, from Pflugerville, Texas, has been in trouble for fighting. When Enemkpali was in college at Louisiana Tech, he punched an off-duty police officer who was working security during a fight at a bar. Now, that role falls to Ryan Fitzpatrick.
