Jets will sign ex-Ravens, Jaguars RB Bernard Pierce

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets are signing running back Bernard Pierce and waiving running back Zac Stacy, who failed his physical after missing the last half of last season with a broken left ankle. Stacy broke his ankle last November in a game against the Bills.

That Pierce was signed this early in the summer is somewhat of a surprise, however, given the fact he’ll miss the first two games of the upcoming season due to a suspension.

The Jets’ starting backfield figures to showcase veterans Matt Forte and Bilal Powell.

The Jets made some moves at running back on their first day of training camp.

Neither Stacy nor Robinson participated in the offseason workouts. He was released by the Ravens after his drunk-driving arrest. Every year since 2012 Pierce has been a well below average back, averaging less than 4 yards per carry in each year from 2013 through 2015. His best year in the National Football League was his rookie year in 2012, when he rushed for 532 yards on 108 carries for a 4.9 yards per carry average.

In four seasons, Pierce has rushed for 1,345 yards and five touchdowns.
