Jewell visits Glacier, Yellowstone for park celebration

Soon, they noticed something else. Visitors are encouraged to come together to connect, explore, and celebrate creativity with a camera, make new friends, exchange ideas, and celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service (NPS).

Chicago native Lee Hulting was celebrating his 70th birthday Thursday in Gardiner and was excited to be part of the event. The other is reaching out to minority communities, who studies show don’t go to the parks, and getting them to visit – and care about preserving – America’s parks.

The governor said Interior Secretary Sally Jewell suggested the trip as the federal agency has been planning celebrations throughout the country this year to mark its centennial.

There were several fishermen on Rescue Creek near Gardiner on Thursday, and Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park Dan Wenk said there is no sign of the parasite in the park that forced the closure of the Yellowstone River to recreationists from Gardiner to Laurel. McAloon notes that the park recently hosted the descendants of another famed Denali figure, 1940’s era Park wildlife biologist Adolf Murie, whose pioneering wolf and sheep studies, helped change the way the park service viewed predators. She wants to be part of a team that recruits minorities.
