Yahoo is reportedly displaying search results – both organic and paid – that are powered by Google when some users search using Mozilla’s Firefox web browser.

Google’s organic and paid search results have been spotted on Yahoo this week in a test that has since been confirmed by Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, according to the New York Times.

Only users on certain browsers are seeing Google-powered search results, but not all the time.

A Google spokeswoman did confirm that the company’s search results and ads are showing up on Yahoo, but emphasized that it’s part of Yahoo’s testing and isn’t exclusive.

Projections eMarketer Microsoft and Yahoo together will own 6.5% from 81.59 billion in global scale search market in 2015. The idea that Google is now potentially moving in on Microsoft’s territory, however, can not sit well with the Redmond, Washington-based tech giant. Under the latest agreement, 51% of Yahoo’s desktop search traffic have to carry Bing ads.The remaining can bring ads however Yahoo likes that comes either from its own Gemini system or by other partners. Yahoo confirmed that it has begun testing the use of Google search ads for a small portion of its desktop and mobile web search results.

However, if such a partnership still happens, Bing might well see its share decimated to single digits as far as search market share is concerned. Besides, the entire search reshuffle has also got reshuffled as per the screenshots.

Still, Microsoft has lost some critical deals, including one with Facebook in December.

Google pursued a search alliance with Yahoo back in 2008, but that deal was scuppered by the Justice Department’s antitrust division.

Recently Zacks published that Yelp is selling ads for 1000x the rate that Google charges. Speaker Yahoo said yesterday that Google was among the companies that performed the test.

Experts now suggest that a major collaboration on search between Google and Yahoo could draw the attention of United States and foreign antitrust regulators. The landscape has changed in several years now, and this possible partnership is evident with ongoing search tests.
