Jim Carrey calls lawsuit over ex’s death ‘heartless’

The wrongful death suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday by Mark Burton of Portland, Oregon, alleges that Carrey acted with “reckless disregard of causing serious harm and injury” to Cathriona White, a 30-year-old makeup artist and hairstylist from Ireland whom Carrey had reportedly been dating off and on for about three years. The Los Angeles Superior Court complaint from OR resident Mark Burton accuses Carrey of “extreme and outrageous” misconduct leading up to and following the overdose death of Cathriona White, a 30-year-old Irish makeup artist.

The lawsuit claims Jim used his “immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive” drugs under a false name of Arthur King.

The actor continued by saying that he “will not tolerate this heartless attempt” to try to exploit him and Cathriona White, the woman who he loved.

White’s widower Mark Burton blames Carrey for her death – and now he’s suing.

Burton also alleges that Carrey “took steps to hide and obfuscate his involvement and culpability” by sending White a “bogus message” asking where the drugs were a day before friends found her body.

Reports show that in 2012, White linked up with a group of Scientologists, which is where she met Burton.

Irish make-up artist Cathriona White, 30, was found dead in a Sherman Oaks, California, residence in September a year ago.

Burton is seeking unspecified damages and legal fees from Carrey, and is also asking the actor to pay for White’s funeral expenses, amid claims the comedian had reneged on an earlier offer to cover the burial costs.

Carrey, denying wrongdoing in White’s death, vowed in a statement to fight the allegations rather than settle the civil lawsuit out of court.

Afterward, Burton’s lawsuit says, Carrey tried to “conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability in Ms”. Her death “is a tragedy that is being exploited in a completely meritless lawsuit in pursuit of a payday”, Singer wrote.

The complaint says: “If Carrey legitimately believed White had taken the drugs from him and she had subsequently gone missing for days with no contact, then why would Carrey not immediately request law enforcement to check on her well-being after she did not return his text?” He said that unfortunately, her tragic end was sadly beyond the control of anyone else. Carrey acknowledged that he could get the suit dismissed by meeting with Burton’s attorney, but added that, “there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world”.

Although the actor and Cathriona White had split up a week prior to her suicide, that does not mean he did not still love and respect the woman. “I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace”.
