Michigan’s receivers did a great job creating lanes for Rudock to throw to, and ran crisp routes to open up deep-play opportunities. The Gators, however, have suffered two tough losses and have been futile on offense. This season Peppers has been an impact player for the Wolverines on defense, offense, and in the return game. New quarterback Treon Harris hasn’t been as effective and has been prone to being sacked. The O-Line must do a better job of protecting Harris if he’s going to have any shot of being productive this game.
Pellegrini Wary Of In-Form Ighalo, Watford
Pellegrini said the club is determined to get to the bottom of his curse: “We think that he is a very professional player”. Claudio Ranieri admits he is praying for an all-English Champions League final between Arsenal and Manchester City.
“They’re an outstanding defense”, UF offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier said, who served as Michigan’s offensive coordinator in 2014. Field position is going to be a key in this game, and Townsend can be a game-changer for the Gators by pinning the Wolverines deep in their own territory.
Florida’s leading rusher is junior Kelvin Taylor. Taylor has run for at least 100 yards in three of his last four games, and is the key for Florida to be successful in this game. DeVeon Smith ran for 111 yards, while Drake Johnson and Sione Houma chipped in touchdowns. If Taylor can find holes early, it will go a long way in helping the passing game for Harris.
Michigan’s MVP is no other than quarterback Jake Rudock. Perhaps, but to show no progress in such an extended period of time makes one think back to some of the Gators’ low points under Will Muschamp.
Florida’s offense was frightful. It was most likely equal parts confidence in his seasoned QB and disgust with the progress of the offensive line and running backs.
“It’s very important for us to go out on the right note”, sophomore cornerback Jalen Tabor said.
“It’s hard to argue with that”, answered Rudock, the Citrus Bowl MVP. “But where we’ve come in three short years is incredible”.
After several years at the National Football League level, Harbaugh was expected to bring his alma mater back to prominence but not this quickly and certainly not within the Big Ten. However, Ruddock suffered a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the end of the season finale against Ohio State, and it is yet to be seen how this will hamper Ruddock, if at all, against the Gators.
Just like the Penn State game, throwing the ball doesn’t make sense against Florida.
Michigan’s defense could end up making New Year’s Day a mess for Florida. Both teams are pretty close when it comes to punting, as Gators punter Johnny Townsend averages 44.9 yards per punt and Wolverines punter Blake O’Neill averages 41.3 yards per punt. How much did that change the game?
But, still, that is not the way the Gators want this season to end – on a three-game losing streak.
But it came against a Florida defense that ranked in the top 20 nationally in touchdowns allowed per red zone trip coming into Friday, giving up touchdowns fewer than half the time.
