Feb 11, 2015; New Orleans, LA, US; New Orleans Pelicans guard Jimmer Fredette (32) and Indiana Pacers forward Shayne Whittington (42) scramble for a loose ball during the second half of a game at the Smoothie King Center.

A year ago was his most inadequate season of all, as he played 50 games for the Pelicans and shot 18.8 percent from deep and 38.0 percent overall.

After suiting up for three teams over his first four National Basteball Association seasons, Jimmer Fredette is headed to San Antonio after the Spurs locked up the former BYU standout with a contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Spurs are always on the lookout for shooters and want to give Fredette his shot in the San Antonio system”, ESPN’s Marc Stein tweeted.

It’s Jimmer Time, San Antonio.

Nonetheless if Fredette does not pan out, the Spurs could simply waive him. The two played each other numerous times in college, including a senior season where Fredette and BYU won both regular-season matchups, but Leonard and the Aztecs beat the Cougars in the MWC Tournament championship. He’s get a few minuets here and there, perhaps when a few of the veterans take a few games off, but he’ll never be asked to take on a heavy role, which is great for him as he tries to rebuild his disappointing start to his career. That is an unacceptable mark for a player who many expected would make a career with his exceptional three-point shooting.

Last year, he averaged career-bests in several categories, including points (16.5), rebounds (7.2), assists (2.5) and steals (2.3).
