Jimmy Carter Says He’s Cancer
It is unclear if pembrolizumab was responsible for ridding the cancerous cells in Carter, as the drug is too new to know if its effects are consistent and repeatable.

“And when I went this week, they didn’t find any cancer at all”, Carter told the congregation, prompting gasps and applause as he smiled slightly.
“The goal is control and to have a good quality of life”, Curran said.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter says his latest MRI scan has shown that his cancer is gone, about four months after the cancer was discovered.
In a marvelous – if not miraculous – turn of events, the 91-year-old former USA president announced Sunday that his cancer is gone. Carter, 90, said he will cut back dramatically on his schedule to receive treatment every three weeks after doctors detected four spots of melanoma on his brain following recent liver cancer surgery.
According to experts, the way in which the melanoma treatment process has evolved and advanced over recent years has brought about an entirely new era in both treatment methodology and the realistic prospect of outstanding recoveries.
He says, “There is no question that this drug and drugs similar to it are indeed very promising, they are changing the landscape of cancer care for many patients”. “It took everyone by surprise”, said Stuckey.
In that sense, he said, Carter’s age actually might have worked in his favor.
A report from The Atlanta Journal Constitution, however, said Carter first made the announcement Sunday at the beginning of his Sunday school class at Maranatha. “The more mutations, the more likely the immune system will figure out there’s something different that needs to be attacked”. He said the new scan showed no signs of the original cancer spots or any new ones… In November, doctors Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta had stated that Carter’s treatments were going well and that the cancer had not spread no more. A spokesman didn’t immediately return messages on Sunday, and Carter only mentioned a brain scan.

Despite the diagnosis, Carter continued to volunteer, working to build homes for Habitat for Humanity, an organization he’s been involved with since 1984.
