Jimmy Carter to undergo radiation for cancer on his brain
He will undergo four treatments at three-week intervals. “If I had to choose between four more years and the Carter Center, I think I would choose the Carter Center“.

“I’ve had a wonderful life, I have thousands of friends”. “I’ll do what the doctors recommend for me to extend my life as much as possible”, Carter said, adding that he had already taken medication intravenously on Wednesday. “Now I feel, this is in the hands of God…and I’ll be prepared for anything that comes”.
Carter was on his way to Nepal to build houses, a practice that he has maintained every year for the last 33 summers when he found out about his illness. Pavlick said 99% of melanomas begin on the skin, with the other 1% starting in mucous membranes or, rarely, the eyes.
“My grandfather is a remarkable person”.
For President Carter now, life goes on as planned, he said. Doctors performed a complete physical examination and found the tumor on his liver.
But mostly, Carter shared his gratitude.
He added that no cancer has been found on his pancreas or any other part of his body so far, and doctors are monitoring him closely. The day it was removed, a subsequent scan showed spots on his brain. His parents, brother, and two sisters all died from the disease. His mother had the disease as well.
Even though 90-year-old Carter has a strong family history of cancer, experts say his chances of survival are surprisingly good thanks to new advanced treatments and his overall vibrant attitude.
Carter will turn 91 in October and quipped this would be a “propitious” time to slow down his schedule at the Carter Center.
Carter, speaking at an Atlanta news conference, also said he would receive his first radiation treatment later Thursday.
So says Dr. John Boockvar, a neurosurgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital, noting that the brain is a common place for the deadly cancer to spread. Side effects from radiation can include headache and nausea.
A test for the P16 mutation is available, Devoe said, but he didn’t know if Carter had taken it. As a type of cancer with a tendency to spread, Devoe said melanoma is one of three forms of cancer likely to metastasize to the brain.
“They essentially flew in, rented a vehicle, got in it by themselves and drove to a town and went up and down the street”, Buckley said.
“Then of course, if he wants me to give him some advice, I’ll be glad to do that”, Carter joked.
“It’s the first time they’ve called me in a long time”, he said with a smile, prompting laughter from the audience.
President Carter is as good a man as they come. Michelle and I are praying for him and Rosalynn. “We’re all pulling for you, Jimmy”, Mr Obama tweeted. He said he had a “bad cold”, but he got a health check that revealed the mass.
In May, Carter cut short a trip to Guyana to observe an election because he wasn’t feeling well. If only he had sent an extra helicopter during the attempted hostage rescue in Iran in 1979. It vividly describes his boyhood on a Depression-era farm outside tiny Plains, Ga., his career as a naval officer, and his rise to the peak of American politics.
He and his wife still make regular appearances at events in Atlanta and travel overseas.
Carter’s acceptance of his prognosis seems to lie in his deep religious belief, and he pledged to continue teaching Sunday school at his church “as long as I’m physically able”. He plans to teach this weekend as scheduled.

“This is not a eulogy in any way”, said grandson Jason Carter, who is taking over as chairman of the board of trustees at the Carter Center, which promotes peace, democracy and health care improvements around the world.
