Jimmy Fallon to host 2017 Golden Globe Awards

The announcement was made Tuesday by NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt during NBC’s executive panel at the Television Critics Association press tour. “The Tonight Show” is now the most-watched of the US late night TV talk shows.

The three-hour ceremony airs live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on January 8. In addition to teasing the debut of The Good Place and the future of Blindspot, the broadcast network announced that Fallon would interrupt Gervais’ Globes streak in 2017. Gervias specifically has been criticized by some for his controversial and politically incorrect comments while hosting the Golden Globes, so it’s not that surprising that NBC chose to go in a different direction. “The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is thrilled and we’re thrilled as well that he wanted to do it this year”.

Fallon said on Twitter he was excited to be hosting the event, one of the biggest stops in Hollywood’s long awards season.

The “Saturday Night Live” alum takes over hosting duties from this year’s emcee Ricky Gervais, whose controversial style stands in stark contrast to the affable Fallon.

This will be Fallon’s first award show hosting gig since the Emmy Awards in 2010.

“His charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world”. It’s going to be very interesting to see how he does when he hosts the Golden Globes next year.
