Jimmy Kimmel’s Best Quotes at the Emmys 2016

Rami Malek won the Outstanding Actor for a Drama Series award for his role in “Mr. Robot”. It beat off a challenge from US network’s “Mr. Robot”, as well as Netflix’s dark Washington D.C. drama “House of Cards”. Sunday’s Emmys saw HBO’s fantasy epic Game of Thrones make television history, becoming the most decorated fictional show since the awards began almost seven decades ago.

The Emmys proved more adroit than the Oscars at recognizing and honoring diversity in Hollywood’s top ranks, with trophies going to minority actors and behind-the-scenes artists including writers Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang of “Master of None”.

Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the vainglorious USA president Selina Meyer on HBO’s Veep, apologised for what she called “the current political climate”. I think Veep broke the wall between politics and comedy. She dedicated her award to her father, who recently died.

It was her third gong for the role, although she was not present at the ceremony. But she has never attended the ceremony.

The series also picked up the outstanding drama award.

John Oliver won best variety talk series for his HBO series Last Week Tonight, beating fellow British nominee James Corden, who was nominated for The Late Late Show.

Other big winners included the dramatization of the OJ Simpson trial – “The People vs OJ Simpson”.

“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” beat “Fargo“, “The Night Manager“, “American Crime” and “Roots” for the Outstanding Limited Series award.

Kate McKinnon has been hilarious on SNL for years, but no cast member had ever won a series acting award before.

The comedy-actress win for Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her leading political satire “Veep”.t was her second consecutive win for best comedy and it was her eighth Emmy overall, having previously won prizes for her work in “Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. But she knew whom to credit. “Are you rooting for O.J.to win this time?”. “I was a big O.J. Simpson fan and I remember him at USC”, Vance said, “I was a big football fan at 7 and 8”.

Other winners made their way to the trophy engraving bar, where they had their Emmys personalized. “Ryan Michelle Bathe, you make this go”.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones secured its reign at the Emmys with a record-breaking haul of awards.

Kimmel also needled reality show producer Mark Burnett – a creator of The Apprentice, the NBC show that made Trump a television star – saying that if Trump is elected president, Burnett will be responsible.
