Jimmy Walker wins PGA Championship

Six groups didn’t tee off on Saturday and Jordan Spieth – who sits at 3-under – finished just one hole before the rain came. 10 and 11 to take a two-shot lead over defending champion Jason Day.

Walker’s birdies put him at 13 under for the tournament.

In a press conference, the PGA of America’s Kerry Haigh, who leads the championship, was peppered with questions about the PGA’s handling of the weather situation. It didn’t help that he and his wife, Ellie, were up most of Tuesday night after she had an allergic reaction at the PGA Champions’ Dinner he hosted. Of course, rain remains in the forecast for Sunday, so it’s unlikely these planned times are all met.

However, the forecast ranged from a 50 per cent to 90 per cent chance of thunderstorms in the 12-hour period between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., raising the distinct possibility of a Monday finish. Then again, Bob Tway was nine shots behind after 36 holes when he won at Inverness.

The leaders – Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb are set to tee off at 2:55 p.m.

It was the fourth 63 at Baltusrol, following Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf in the opening round of the 1980 U.S. Open and Thomas Bjorn in the third round at 2005 PGA.

British Open champion Henrik Stenson and Brooks Koepka were another shot back. He shot 68 Saturday and stands at 1-under 209. It’s going to be a fascinating day of golf.

Day talks to his caddie Colin Swatton on the first hole during the continuation of the weather-delayed third round. The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, with the same pairings from the third round.

World number four Rory McIlroy describes his putting as “pathetic” and “disheartening” after missing the cut at the US PGA Championship.

Rose has won at least one event worldwide every year since 2010, but the Ryder Cup star has yet to taste victory in a frustrating 2016 campaign hampered by a back injury.

Phil Mickelson had his best round at the 98th PGA Championship on Saturday, a 2-under 68, despite having to hit out of trouble on the 17th hole. With four birdies the rest of the way and only a slip-up on 16, Mickelson managed an even-par 70 to advance to the weekend. And potential Sunday storms could bring wind into play. That means players will be able to lift, clean and place their balls anywhere but the rough.

Mickelson played with McIlroy on Thursday and Friday and has struggled with the flat stick at points in his own career.

The players, when their ball lies on a closely mown area “through the green”, may mark the ball, clean it and replace it within one club length no nearer the hole or in a hazard. Golf has the No. 62 in major championships.

Of the 86 players to make the cut, just the top 10 were unable to start their rounds before play was halted.
