JJ Abrams: Anton Yelchin will not be recast in ‘Star Trek 4’
Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk in the newer movies, also addressed how hard it has been for he and his fellow cast members to promote Star Trek Beyond so soon after Yelchin’s death.

TrekNews.net correspondent Brad Gullickson was live at the event, providing photos and updates throughout the night via Twitter.
Numerous film’s cast have shared their devastation at the premature loss of the actor.
There’s also a new character worth mentioning in the film who doesn’t come from the regular Star Trek cast, “the sprightly new heroine named Jaylah (Sofia Boutella)”, as The New Yorker describes her. The film will hit theaters on July 22, after premiering during San Diego Comic-Con on July 20. The upcoming STAR TREK BEYOND will be Yelchin’s last appearance as Chekov and perhaps, the last appearance of Chekov himself.
Asked by IGN about the possibility of recasting the character, Abrams said: “I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better”.
‘He had just turned 18 when we met him and he was the youngest one of the crew and I nearly feel like he was the wisest one, ‘ she said.
John Cho (Sulu), right, says he will celebrate the young career of Anton Yelchin (Chekov), left, through his body of work. But in getting the crew of the starship Enterprise to tackle a more manageable (but still life-or-death) crisis with new alien enemies and allies, Beyond returns Trek a bit closer to its origins while also relying less on reimagined versions of old characters and storylines. Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original “Star Trek” movie series, died when “Star Trek Beyond” was in pre-production. “You have to accept the mission statement” – which, as fans know, is “to explore odd new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before”.
“Because it is so unspeakably sad and insane and wrong that he is gone, I think that the way he is honored at the end of the movie, which is so simple and small, it literally feels like the ideal way”, Abrams told AZ Central. “I think it just takes on different forms than it did 50 years ago”.

“We wanted to make it part of that Spock’s arc as well, not just a reference to Spock Prime, or what we did eventually, of course, which was dedicate the film to him”, explains co-screenwriter Simon Pegg.
