JJ ABRAMS – ‘KYLO REN Is Not A SITH’

When asked to elaborate on the history of the group, Abrams teases that the First Order in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was somehow formed to please Darth Vader. Whether or not his willingness to share details about this December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a result of his own softening of that stance or just Disney telling him to keep quiet remains to be seen.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director J.J. Abrams explained that Kylo was “Vader obsessive”, and heavily influenced by the Sith. Maybe the scrolling text at the beginning of the film will say, “A long time ago, in a Nazi-occupied galaxy far, far away…” The New Order, those guys dressed in the Imperial outfits, touting the Empire? Abrams on August 25 put his background – and that of the First Order – into newfound doubt. Kylo Ren is not a Sith Lord.

But how did Snoke and The First Order come to power? Abrams and co-writer Kasdan wondered what might happen if the Nazis had tried to regroup, which is exactly what it sounds like Snoke and Ren are attempting to do regarding the Empire. These toys relive the experience of the movies and even to create new adventures. Is he the new Sith villain? The New York-born filmmaker is known as the director who insisted right up until the first preview screenings that Benedict Cumberbatch was not playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness two years ago. And based on this new information, it seems perhaps Snoke is the leader of the Knights of Ren. “To me there is a complete commitment to how selfish Han Solo is, how desperate to get off his desert farm planet Luke is, how demanding Leia is, how wimpy Chewie can be, how annoyed 3PO gets”.
