Filmmaker JJ Abrams and the team of Star Trek Beyond paid tribute to one of the cast members, Anton Yelchin, who died last month after a freak automobile accident at his home in Studio City.

“He was a young man who was just starting to become what he was going to become”, John Cho, who plays helmsman Sulu right next to Yelchin’s Chekov on the starship Enterprise’s bridge, tells The Washington Post. “I’m grateful to have had even one film with him”. Regarding Yelchin’s Chekov, the director says that there’s a lot of consideration happening behind the scenes when it comes to what will happen to him in the film’s universe. “There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better”, Abrams told Postmedia Network, before revealing that discussions are ongoing with screenwriters J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as to how they will deal with the loss of Yelchin within the script.
Chris Pine admitted that the press tour was “difficult” without Yelchin as the pair has been “good friends”. “That was a way we could at least acknowledge the awfulness of what happened”.
“We were devastated, bereft beyond any idea”. “It’s been very hard to process for us all”.
You can not knowledgeably watch “Star Trek Beyond” without the pang of awareness that this is the last we’ll see of Anton Yelchin’s Chekov.
“When you see the movie, please be happy because…”

He said: ‘I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it’. “I don’t know if we ever will”. “We all carry him with us in our heart, tonight”, Quinto said. I found myself heartened by that when I watched the movie.
