JJ Abrams, Star Trek cast honour Anton Yelchin at premiere
The movie starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and the late Anton Yelchin is now sitting at 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and has received some very positive reviews from critics.

Mainly, though, they created a story about diversity and unity, virtues that were revolutionary on television when Gene Roddenberry and company first dropped them in 1966, confronting the forces of destruction and division. Abrams seems to be pretty happy with the next STAR TREK movie, and no, he’s not talking about STAR TREK BEYOND, although, considering the reception BEYOND has received so far, I’d imagine that he’s pretty pleased about that as well. A rabid but relatively small fandom could only keep the stories of William Shatner’s Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy’s half-alien science officer Spock and their then-uniquely diverse associates in the United Federation of Planets’ Starfleet on the air for so long.
Moviegoers taking in Star Trek Beyond this weekend will endure a bittersweet moment as Anton Yelchin portrays Ensign Pavel Chekov one final time.
“Beyond”, then, is in the position of representing all that Trek stands for on its golden anniversary.
Director Justin Lin, taking over the rebooted series from J.J. Abrams, does his best to spice things up for the good captain.
J.J. Abrams and the cast of “Star Trek Beyond” took a moment to remember their former co-star and friend, Anton Yelchin, at the film’s premiere in at Comic-Con in San Diego Wednesday night. Before Star Trek we were talking Star Wars. Through great casting and a willingness to dispense with slavish devotion to the original TV show’s canon, Abrams breathed new life into “Star Trek”.
If the last film in this series proved anything, it’s that there’s only place for one tall, white, unemotional character in a Star Trek film-and that person has pointy ears.
The bickering between Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Bones (Karl Urban) delivers plenty laughs, and Kirk (Chris Pine) still manages to think his way out of seemingly impossible scenarios.

With just hours to go until “Star Trek Beyond” is finally released in theaters, Paramount Pictures has released a new clip from the third reboot film. While the action is both fast and furious, they never detract from the experience, thanks to some smooth editing.
