JJ Watt reportedly expected to play in Texans’ opener against Bears

The Houston Texans have activated defensive end J.J. This means the defensive end was back on the practice field this Monday.

Strengths: If 2015 Defensive Player of Year J.J. Watt returns to form after back surgery in July, Houston’s defense will continue to be team’s strength. He has started every game in his five-year career. Neither player participated in training camp or played in any of the Texans preseason games.

Coach Bill O’Brien said Friday that it “looks decent” that Watt could play against the Bears. “I don’t see this being a problem. So I’m just trying to keep that going and I think I’ll be out there pretty soon”.

Texans are looking for breakout season from Clowney, who shined this preseason after failing to produce in first two injury-plagued years. Brown probably isn’t as far along in his recovery as Watt and could miss Week 1.

O’Brien said Newton should be ready to practice this week and play against the Bears, but that he would likely not be able to play in the whole game because he missed nearly all of training camp with the injury.

“It’s like night and day”, he said of the progress he has made in the last month. “I want to make sure I’m Duane Brown that I’ve become over the years when I’m out there”.
