Amid political wranglings over the issue, renowned thinker and academician Noam Chomsky questioned Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar’s decision to allow police on its campus, saying it was apparently “created and precipitated” by the government and the university administration.
“Why did you allow the police on campus when it is clear that this was not legally required?” It said that the whole fraternity is extremely concerned about the situation unfolding at JNU and refuse to remain silent as colleagues face such atrocities in the hand of the authorities.
Delhi Police issued a lookout notice for three youth – believed to be JNU students – in connection with the alleged “anti-India” sloganeering at the varsity last week, a source said on Saturday. We only provided whatever cooperation was needed as per the law of the land.
“We were also demanding action against BJP MLA Kailash Choudhary who made derogatory remarks against (Congress vice president) Rahul Gandhi when the ABVP activists clashed with us”, Mr Meena, who led the NSUI protest, said.
A “doctored” video allegedly showing arrested JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar as raising anti-India slogans has been sent to a forensic laboratory by the District Magistrate conducting a probe into the sedition row.
Universities from across California issued a letter signed by 358 academicians.

Jabalpur: Janata Dal United president Sharad Yadav on Sunday said JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges, is “innocent” and demanded his immediate release. “What happened in the Patiala House Court Complex on February 17 was a major security lapse on the part of the police”, the report reads.
