In January, Arkansas had an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent compared with a national rate at 5.7 percent.
In the Bay Area this November, San Mateo County had the lowest number of unemployed workers at 3.1 percent.
The report from EDD said the main reason of the decline was attributed to net increase in nonfarm payroll jobs which numbered at approximately 5,500.
The unemployment rate was the fifth-highest among states, and remained above the nation’s 5 percent rate. It estimates the number of Californians holding jobs in November was 17,910,000, an increase of 11,000 from October, and up 365,000 from the employment total in November of past year. This represents a. 1 percent improvement over each of the months before that. Employment gains in leisure and hospitality (+6,000), professional and business services (+2,800), other services (+1,000), information (+300), and financial activities (+200) surpassed losses in trade, transportation, and utilities (-5,700) and educational and health services (-900).
Sectors that are still showing weakness include manufacturing as well as mining and logging, Deck said.
“I think employment growth in Arkansas is still very good”, Deck said.
Manufacturing added 11,600 jobs in both nondurable goods (+8,500) and durable goods (+3,100). Mining and logging employment decreased 1,700. The result was a slight increase in the number of unemployed, from 11,600 to 11,700; but with the percentage rate going unchanged.
Professional and business services lost 1,100 jobs last month, 800 of them in administrative and support services. The largest over-the-month percentage increase in employment occurred in Vermont (+0.9 percent), followed by Idaho (+0.7 percent) and DE (+0.6 percent).
