Jobless rates rise in June

The national jobless rate in June rose by 0.2 percentage points from May to 4.9 percent but was 0.4 percentage points lower than in June 2015. Meanwhile, unemployment among male BA holders stands at 21.4 per cent, compared to 70 per cent for women.

This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.7 percent for the state and 5.1 percent for the nation during the same time period.

Hancock County’s unemployment rate was tied for fourth lowest in the state with DE and Holmes counties. Bamberg County had the highest, 9.9 percent.

Of the total seasonally adjusted labor force of 685,350 people statewide, 662,500 were employed while 22,850 were unemployed for the month of June.

Unemployment is up 0.6 percent from May to June on Kauai, but is down 0.4 percent from past year, according to a report from the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. Over the year, 67,545 job seekers found work, and the level of unemployed individuals decreased by an estimated 7,250.
