Jobs, Unemployment Rate Up
The SC Department of Employment and Workforce said Friday that the state’s jobless rate was at 5.6 percent in October.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 5.8 percent in October, down from 5.9 percent in September and below the 7.2 percent rate in October 2014.
Counties with the lowest unemployment rates are: Shelby County at 4.0%, Lee County at 4.5%, and Elmore and Cullman Counties at 4.8%. “This is the lowest rate Kansas has recorded in more than 14 years”.
The monthly unemployment rate continues to slip in Mesa County as more people find seasonal work for the holidays. All divisions except the Mountain had significant rate changes from a year earlier, all of which were declines. Marin and San Francisco counties follow with 3.3 and 3.4 percent.
California employers increased their payrolls by 41,200 during October, which was a significant increase after sluggish growth has been reported for September, according to data from federal officials. The year-overyear change, October 2014 to October 2015, shows an increase of 463,000 jobs (up 2.9 percent).
Sacramento area unemployment rose four-tenths of a point, to 5.5 percent, although payrolls in the region grew by 3,400. The United States’ jobless rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point, down to 5.0 percent in October.
The U.S. Labor Department said Nebraska’s October rate came in just above North Dakota’s 2.8 percent. Construction posted the largest gains on a percentage basis, up 7.3 percent (adding 49,800 jobs).

The Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment news release for October 2015 is scheduled to be released on Monday, December 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. (EST). On the negative side, state state lost 4.800 manufacturing jobs and 2,000 in mining and logging, which includes the oil and gas industry.
