Joe Biden writes open letter to Stanford rape victim
Instead, by handing down a sentence more fitting of a bicycle thief, the judge, too, treated the victim like a piece of clothing. Santa Clara County Superior Judge Aaron Perksy caused a bit of an uproar in sentencing Turner to six months in jail and three years probation.

– Meghan Sullivan (@meggsully) June 4, 2016If anyone can put me in touch w the fine, fantastic heroic woman who was raped by Brock Allen Turner, I’ll be eternally grateful.
Brock Turner is shown in a booking photo released by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office on June 6, 2016.
Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner carried out the sexual assault in a public place while the victim was unconscious, and was only stopped when two Swedish cyclists witnessed the attack and tackled a fleeing Turner to the ground. “And I don’t know if the facts actually merit that kind of mitigation”.
Prosecutors had sought a six-year prison term for Turner. Petition to recall judge in Brock Turner case reaches almost 1 million signaturesWhile the nation continues to debate the light sentence, the small OH community that raised Turner doesn’t want to talk about him.
Turner’s father also wrote a letter to the judge defending his son and echoing the dozens of other letters from friends and mentors. “That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of his life”.
Since being published online, her statement has gone viral and there has been an outpouring of support on social media. The readings officially put the words of a sexual assault victim into the congressional record, making it a documented part of American history.
Turner is expected to serve only three months in California’s notoriously overcrowded jail system.
Her school district said in a prepared statement Wednesday that she regrets writing a letter to the judge and acknowledged it was a mistake.
The 23-year-old woman, who has not been publicly identified, read aloud a scathing letter in the courtroom, addressed to her attacker.
“Her bravery inspires me, as I hope it inspires you”, Speier said on the floor Thursday.
That letter inspired Raleigh pastor John Pavlovitz to write something to Dan Turner titled “To Brock Turner’s Father, From Another Father”.

Turner’s protective custody status is apparently due to his sexual assault conviction, and not due to the popularity of his case. If you read into what our petition says, we’re not saying that the university is doing anything wrong, but the university can always do more.
