Joe Hart: Out against Southampton

It ultimately avoids the pitfall of placing too much dependency on certain players to step up to the plate to save the day in every single game – this is, unfortunately for Manchester City fans, a position they have found themselves in.

Willy Caballero says he is determined to restore his reputation at Manchester City by proving he is ready to step in for goalkeeper Joe Hart. You never know as he improves but maybe he will be out for 10 days.

“Fortunately it is not a very serious injury but it is important for him to recover well over the next week”.

“Always when you play badly or commit errors, you hope to play another game to put it behind you”, Caballero said. That is why we have a squad.

“It wasn’t a good week for us – we lost two games”.

“It was very sweet for me to get my first goal”, he added.

Defenders Vincent Kompany (calf), Pablo Zabaleta (knee) and Eliaquim Mangala (knock) are still unavailable, along with long-term absentee Samir Nasri (hamstring).

“Kun came off as a precaution”, Pellegrini said after the match. With a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa earlier this month, City have actually gone three games without a win but Pellegrini is not overly concerned about form yet.

“I think they were the best side that we came up against (last season)”. Pellegrini said: “In Premier League you never know which team will win against the other”. We did that today, and we’ll go home happy. “Southampton are having a good season”.

The hosts were stunned by Jurgen Klopp’s resurgent Liverpool last time out as they failed to cope with the Reds’ pressing style and succumbed to a surprising 4-1 defeat; City will be wary of Southampton, another side who like to press high up the pitch. Wilfred Caballero will start in Hart’s absence, with Richard Wright the backup. He last played in the top flight for Everton nine years ago and has not played a competitive game at any level since appearing for Ipswich in 2011.

Delph insisted that it was important that Manchester City bounced back after losing to at home to Liverpool last weekend and he was also happy to find himself on the scoresheet.

For the visitors, they will be without the suspended Graziano Pelle, meaning Shane Long and Sadio Mane are likely to be named as the attacking players at the Etihad. “I hope he will be fit for Stoke”.
