Then Trump said cryptically: “some day, when things calm down, I’ll tell the real story” about Brzezinski and her co-host, former GOP Florida congressman Joe Scarborough.

Brzezinski went after Trump on the early-morning show following a segment about Trump’s escalating attacks on Clinton, which escalated from faulting her proposals based on “bigotry” early in the week to labeling her an outright “bigot” at a speech in MS and in an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Brzezinski, Barnicle and Rev. Al Sharpton all pressed for an answer.

“It’s time to hear from somebody in the mental health community, to look at this person who has been on television for months and to give us a sense of what we have going on here”, she remarked. That’s why Trump’s statement on Sunday focused on Brzezinski, whom he called “untalented”.

“A lot of people are calling him Amnesty Don”, host Joe Scarborough insisted, although no one called him that until Monday morning when Scarborough said it.

Trump responded Sunday with a letter to MSNBC demanding an apology on behalf of his supporter.

The relationship turned very tense in February, however, and has stayed that way nearly ever since. Whether that be out of some desire for honest journalism or a keen sense that Trump has nearly no shot, Brzezinski has increased her criticism of the Republican nominee, going so far as to question his mental health.

Trump also tweeted his dissatisfaction about the Burns interview after the show.
