Joey Bosa’s Mommy wished they pulled an Eli Manning on Chargers

After selecting Eli Manning No. 1 overall, the Chargers immediately traded him to the New York Giants for quarterback Philip Rivers, whom New York selected fourth overall as a condition of the trade, and several other picks. The Chargers have until Tuesday to trade Bosa’s rights, but the organization is not thinking along those lines, a source told Schefter.

Cheryl Bosa left an incendiary Facebook comment that has been authenticated by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The team and Bosa reportedly haven’t spoken in over a week, and negotiations have gone so poorly that Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, wishes her son hadn’t been drafted by San Diego at all, saying it would have been better if the family had chosen to “pull an Eli Manning”, a scenario that Chargers fans remember all too well. “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day”, she wrote.

The only problem with that approach is that Bosa likely wouldn’t be picked No. 3 or higher after a year of no football, especially since he’d remain the exclusive property of the Chargers until the draft begins. This protects the team and puts more money into the pockets of veteran players who have proven they can play in the NFL.

San Diego could use Bosa along the defensive line in 2016.

Reports say Bosa is holding out because of the Chargers’ desire to include offset language in his rookie contract and deferred payment of his signing bonus. It also hints at the possibility of Bosa sitting out the entire year, refusing to sign with the Chargers in the offseason, and then re-entering the draft. And with the two sides not talking directly for 10 days, it appears the absences will continue.

Bosa, the third overall pick by the Chargers in the 2016 NFL Draft, remains unsigned. A trade hasn’t seemed imminent, but if things don’t progress soon, there could be an issue.
