While the J.J. Abrams-directed film is shrouded in secrecy, Isaac recently sat down with TIME to discuss what the Star Wars series has meant to him throughout his life and his own analysis of his character’s journey. Abrams explains, “That’s something I remember loving about the original trilogy: not having seen these people before.”. A little bit more of an emotional context than perhaps there was before.
“What I discover in doing that are two things”.
“I grew up on Star Wars”, Cruz said. “I was only going to do three of them, so I wanted to use the character to supply some bass notes, some gravitas. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is”.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was convinced Abrams was the right man for the job and, as we know now, he eventually changed his mind on the project.
