John Carpenter signs on for 10th “Halloween” sequel

This would be Carpenter’s return to the franchise after Halloween III: Season of the Witch in 1982, which he executive produced and did uncredited script work on. Michael [Myers, the series’ iconic killer] is not just a human being; he’s a force of nature, like the wind. “That’s what makes him so scary”, he added. Akkad is on board to produce under Trancas International films, and Jason Blum is producing for Blumhouse.

No release date has been announced, but there has been word to expect the film sometime in 2017. Anyone who can count sees that is 7 true sequels to the Michael Myers legend, with one spinoff in the mix. The classic horror-film turned a young Jamie Lee Curtis into a household name, and is easily one of the most popular horror-franchises on the market.

The scares in the movie were heightened by the film’s memorable score, which Carpenter also created. Naturally, the studio hated Carpenter’s commendable efforts to keep the franchise fresh and ultimately made a decision to feature Myers as a physical being in a more conventional slasher style. Carpenter delivered Halloween in 1978 on a shoestring budget of $300K, which ultimately became one of the most successful independent films of all time with $70 million at the worldwide box office.

Carpenter released a statement on this new project that he has signed on to with producers Malek Akkad and Jason Blum, both of whom will be producing for their respective production companies, Trancas International Films and Blumhouse Productions. Blum added, “We can not wait to find and collaborate with the right filmmaker to give Halloween fans the movie they deserve”. “Michael Myers is not a character”, Carpenter said at an event announcing the deal. His movie had plenty of influence from the original Halloween but existed in a contemporary world.
