Several readers, including Arnon Barrera, have sent in word that John Cena appeared to have suffered some type of injury during tonight’s WWE Live Event in Hampton, Virginia.

Cena reportedly went down with an injury during his street fight, and the match was temporarily stopped as officials threw up the “X” symbol, signifying that a competitor is hurt and requires medical attention. Wrestlinginc’s correspondent Sherrod Jones noted that he was having issues either with his neck or nose.

The fear for fans is that Cena’s match against Seth Rollins for the United States Championship at the upcoming “Night of Champions” pay-per-view on September 20 could be in jeopardy. Cena was able to finish the match, but no matter what you think of his character on television, he’s proven time and time again that he’s a tough dude. The injury happened because of a infrared sunset flip attempted by Cena which resulted in him landing on his head.

Cena is known to get involved with the crowd post-match, but in this case he went straight backstage and didn’t even stop to point at the crowd. We’ve reached out to WWE for comment and will keep you updated with any information that becomes available but it could have been an angle to play off the recent nose injury.

Cena being hurt would obviously be bad news for WWE.
