John Cena rips Roger Goodell in ESPYs monologue
15-time WWE World Champion John Cena hosted the 2016 ESPY Awards at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. I’m just there for the mindless entertainment on a summer night.

And the trio, as well as the entire Irish population, were in the firing line last night as Cena took aim at in his opening monologue at the ESPYs. “They just can’t get that one right”.
Cena had to follow the emotional speech by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony on the recent violence that’s plagued our country.
That’s not to say that the mood of the show was somber; ESPN did a nice job trying to mix the levity typically associated with the ESPYs and the broader cultural points it wanted to address. Cena began his monologue whipping off a “JR Smith has a shirt on joke”. Matt Damon? Kristaps Porzingis? He was my No. 1 by the way.
But he justified the hosting pick by comparing modern-day sports to the WWE.
Under the agreement, the WWE star will create and produce unscripted projects for linear TV and digital platforms with Leftfield, the largest independent producer of unscripted programming in the US.

He joked about the New York Knicks’ offseason moves, J.R. Smith’s reluctance to wear a shirt, National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell and much more, even chiming in on the Cleveland Browns’ Quarterback situation as well.
