According to a report from PW Insider, John Cena has a shoulder injury that will require surgery, which is apparently scheduled for tomorrow. The former 15-time WWE World Heavyweight champion returned on the December 28, 2015, edition of RAW to challenge Alberto Del Rio for the WWE United States Championship, winning the bout via disqualification. The Cenation leader took to Twitter Wednesday night to break the news to the WWE Universe. In addition to the reality series, Cena was also in the blockbuster comedy Sisters, starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Considering how many injuries WWE already has on the Road to Wrestlemania 32, this news is quite a blow to WWE creative coming out of the New Year.

We will keep you updated on this developing story. If this ends up being rotator cuff surgery, as is being speculated, average recovery time is six months or longer. However, Cena has become notorious for returning from major surgery ahead of schedule.

Cena would still be able to do media appearances for WWE, but without a marquee match of his own to promote, he will fail to make the same impact he would have if he were wrestling.

It would appear Cena’s injury occurred sometime over the last several weeks, although exactly when has not been confirmed.
