Cruz and Kasich’s recent attempt to coordinate their campaigns, divvying up the states where they each have the best chance, is already seen as a failure.
If Ms. Clinton secures the Democratic nomination-and it looks like she will-there’s no guarantee Mr. Sanders’ supporters will join her. The youth don’t typically vote.
On a stop to an Northwest Indiana high school Wednesday, Pence said that while he’s honored by Trump’s request, he’s more excited by the attention the Hoosier state is getting from the national press. But losses in Pennsylvania and the four other Tuesday primaries would be another major blow to the underdog candidates, both in momentum lost and in the delegates each needs to rebound. Cruz will do the same for Kasich in subsequent contests in OR and New Mexico.
Trump will win the Pennsylvania GOP primary, based on exit polls.
While Trump holds a substantial lead in the Republican delegate count, the GOP contest continues to be chaotic.
On the Republican side of the presidential primary, billionaire developer Donald Trump has topped opinion polls heading into the election, followed by Texas Sen.
In Rhode Island, where polls show Clinton with a relatively marginal lead, “unaffiliated” voters are allowed to participate in the Democratic primary, which could help Sanders (it’s also the home state of Sanders campaign strategist Tad Devine). “They’re very fearful that we’re going to end up in an open convention”, Kasich told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
In a statement released by Kasich’s campaign, the OH governor vows to stay in the race despite going more than a month without a state win.
Ignoring the Northeast on Monday, Cruz insisted, “We are at a fundamental fork in the road”, as he campaigned in Indiana.
Trump spoke out against the partnership between Kasich and Cruz.
Had Mr. Sanders been able to close the pledged delegate gap, Ms. Clinton still could have won the nomination based on those superdelegates-meaning the former secretary of state would have won thanks to the Democratic “Establishment” and not Democratic voters. In Maryland, Clinton garnered 63 and Trump won 54 percent of the votes.
What’s more, Trump is now the only Republican still in the race who can reach a majority of delegates (that’s the 1,237 number) on the first ballot at the convention.

But there were signs that some of his supporters were beginning to accept that he might not make it all the way to the White House.
