John Kasich Requests ‘Equal Opportunity’ Coverage from NBC Following Donald
Because Trump’s SNL outing wasn’t specifically exempt under the rule, Kasich insists he’s entitled to an equal opportunity for coverage on NBC’s network and affiliates. After Trumps hosting gig, NBC stations were legally required to file a notice with the FCC about theSNLbroadcast, triggering a seven-dayperiod where rival candidates could submit requests for equal air time in this case, totaling 12 minutes and five seconds.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Kasich and Lindsey Graham have sent letters requesting equal time from NBC stations, with the possibility remaining that other candidates are pursuing similar requests. But the law only requires that qualified candidates be given access to a comparable audience. While Trump is polling at 25 percent in Iowa, Graham and Kasich are each polling at 2 percent, according to the latest CNN/ORC poll. And they want those minutes. “You’re trying to give it to them in an equal or better position”.
While it’s up to the local affiliates to satisfy the Federal Communications Commission’s regulations, the NBC network is negotiating with the four campaigns directly, Woods said. “I would hope we get a few sort of vision of what that’s going to look like here by the end of the week”.

A spokesperson for NBC did not return a request for comment from the Washington Examiner media desk about how it would respond.
