The massacre is still considered one of the most devastating in USA history.

It’s still in the early stages of production, but if it’s picked up as a series, Black Wall Street could debut on WGN in 2018.

Sumpter, who stars in Southside With You as First Lady Michelle Obama, also executive produced by Legend, has jumped on board.

The series will follow the real-life story of a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the early part of the 20th century that housed one of the wealthiest African-American communities in the United States.

Fans of WGN’s Underground are waiting patiently for the next season, but even before that starts, the Chicago-based network is already cooking up something new.

The critically acclaimed Underground chronicles the secret tunnels and railroads slaves used to escape bondage. “Our experience working with them on Underground has been fantastic”, the EP added. In May 1921, several white attackers burned the neighborhood in a two-day rampage that saw 300 die and the community devastated and largely forgotten for decades.
