“The McLaughlin Group” announced the death on Facebook but gave no details about the cause or where McLaughlin died.
“We panelists could see he wasn’t well”, Clift said, “but I attributed it to “just” age”.
The nature of his illness was not disclosed. He also hosted another show, McLaughlin, for CNBC and, for much of the Eighties, served as the Washington editor of National Review.
Material from The New York Times was used in this obituary. After Nixon’s resignation. McLaughlin turned to political consulting, then journalism.
“It instead featured journalists quizzing, talking over and sometimes insulting each other”, Moore said. In recent years, the show billed itself as The American Original a nod to all the shows that copied its format.
Paleoconservatives have a special reason to be grateful to John McLaughlin. His show is wonderful entertainment.
Airing on PBS, it featured McLaughlin leading a panel discussion of serious political and social issues.
McLaughlin made cameo appearances on the sitcoms “Cheers” and “Murphy Brown” and in several politics-related movies, including 1993’s “Dave” and 1998’s “Bulworth”.
“The liveliness of The McLaughlin Group was a reflection of his unique personality as well as his keen intellect, which helped to cover and uncover the numerous landscapes of opinions that steered his listeners to make qualified decisions”. “The intensity of the environment is such so that if people are hesitant to say something, they find themselves saying it anyway, ” he told critic Howard Kurtz.
