John Stewart annihilates Trump, his supporters & Fox News in scathing speech

The beloved comic and political satirist came out of his late-night retirement for a few minutes on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to do what he always did best – offer some biting political commentary and take on his “favorite” news outlet, Fox News. There is no real American.

Outside that studio, though, many viewers may have missed one of Stewart’s longest such appearances since he voluntarily stepped away from “The Daily Show” last August.

With that simple line, Jon Stewart set the internet afire. There’s only one problem with that, this country isn’t your’s, you don’t own it. Just after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump officially accepted the party’s nomination and ended the party’s three-day convention, CBS cut to the Late Night desk where Colbert was waiting to discuss Trump and all things RNC.

He noted the rhetorical gymnastics that conservative Republicans, having nominated Donald Trump, will now have to perform in order to justify backing a “thin-skinned”, “divisive” “political outsider” – all disqualifications lobbed at Barack Obama in 2008.

But before Stewart could continue his tirade on Fox News and supporters of the “thin-skinned narcissist with no government experience”, he was interrupted by Colbert’s air horn. “You don’t own it”. You don’t own it!

“You don’t own patriotism; you don’t own Christianity; you sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police and firefighters”, Stewart continued. Because you feel that you’re this country’s rightful owners.

“Trust me, I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their “blue lives matter” rhetoric who either remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 first responders bill reauthorization”, said Stewart. I see you, and I see your bullshit.

“Those fighting to be included in the ideal of equality are not being divisive”.

In the wake of his Daily Show exit, Stewart joined former colleague John Oliver at HBO with a deal that’s supposed to see him creating content for the internet and HBO Go, but as of yet nothing has materialized.
