English Premier League (EPL) club Chelsea’s legendary center back John Terry has not been offered a new contract and will leave the club at the end of the season.

“He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open”.

The 35 year old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and as it stands, the club will not be giving him a new deal.

Terry announced on Sunday that he had not been offered a new contract by Chelsea after a meeting ten days ago and that his dream of finishing his 18 year career at Stamford Bridge was over.

Terry, however, also hinted that the final decision on his future at the club could come from the new manager, with interim boss Guus Hiddink unlikely to take over the full-time role from next season.

The club’s hierarchy, who had discussed the situation with Terry and his agent before the recent win at Arsenal, were surprised by the player’s decision to make public that there would be “no fairytale ending” to his career at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea issued a statement saying there was still some chance Terry could be back next season. The door is not shut, dialogue is always possible. “He is fit. Regardless of the situation he and the club are in, he will be always very professional”. On the circumstances behind how the club arrived at their decision, Terry added: “My agent made the call like we do every January”. He’s not how you would normally see a 35-year-old, 36-year-old player, that you feel that you get a little bit slower, you can not accept that you’re getting into a danger zone for red cards. “It certainly won’t be in the Premier League”.

He can’t play forever but I think he’s such a leader and such a victor [he could play on]. “I thought there would be much more activity but finally it has been quite and the fact we are all here means it is still quiet”.
