John Terry on Robbie Savage: Twitter reacts after Chelsea captain blasts pundit

Chelsea defender John Terry says he is happy to take on board criticism from players he respects as having played at the highest level, but will take no lessons from average performers such as Robbie Savage.

“The likes of Rio [Ferdinand], Carra [Jamie Carragher], [Gary] Neville – the very best I’ve seen and come across in the game”.

‘If I accuse you of being a dishonest journalist I think you would be very upset and probably take legal action.

“When certain other people speak maybe I don’t listen”.

Savage, a former Leicester City player turned pundit, has been one of a number of people picking holes in a dismal season for Terry and Chelsea, who have suffered six defeats in 11 league games.

“He’s dug me out a couple of times”.

But Terry evidently believes pundits are not qualified to venture opinions unless they have won the Champions League like Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher or Gary Neville – none of whom changed into their full kit to receive a winner’s medal after being suspended for the final.

Here’s a selection of the reaction on social media.

John Terry, take a bow son… All day long. From others?

“We realise where we are in the league, where we are in the Champions League group”.

Terry said that he expected Mourinho to stay on as manager and he knows that the Chelsea boss is upset.

A Chelsea spokesman added: ‘Ordinarily we wouldn’t comment on speculation or rumour but we did note, with a few disappointment, that the BBC put so much stock and credibility into a quote by an unnamed source that by their own admission came second- or third-hand. We’ve not played well enough, and we take that on the shoulders. We are going to turn it around.
