John Williams Begins Work On Star Wars Episode VIII Soon

It has only been a few weeks since shooting wrapped on the much-anticipated sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII, but it sounds like an early cut of the movie is going to be ready soon.

While on the topic of Rey, apparently Williams made a decision to accept producer Kathleen Kennedy’s invitation to score Episode VIII “because he was enchanted by actress Daisy Ridley’s portrayal of Rey and does not want another composer scoring her scenes”.

Alexandre Desplat will be the first composer that isn’t John Williams to score a Star Wars film and shades of his work can already be heard in a few of the trailers for Rogue One.

Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII. This will be the eight Star Wars film scored by the legendary composer, whose iconic and instantly recognizable melodies and themes are as important to this universe as any character on the screen.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was not John Williams’s last Star Wars score.

Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on December 17, 2017. Fair enough. Ridley is an indisputable breakout of The Force Awakens and Williams’ score for “Rey’s Theme” is one of the most celebrated pieces of music to come out of the new trilogy so far. Apparently he is reluctant to say goodbye to the series as he was captivated by actress Daisy Ridley’s portrayal of Rey and can’t bear to have another composer scoring her scenes.
