Johnny Cueto shakes off trade rumors to toss gem versus Rockies
Yet, Reds pitcher Michael Lorenzen was warming up before the game, prepared to pitch in Cueto’s place if a rumored trade with the Royals was completed.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted late Saturday that sources told him and Fox colleague Jon Morosi a deal sending the stalwart right-hander to Kansas City was all but done when Cincinnati balked because of concerns surrounding the medical condition of one of the prospects the Royals were to deliver.
With Cueto off the board now, the trade market may start to open a bit. Again it is unknown who the player was, and if the trade will go through using different pieces at a later time.
On Saturday night, Cueto took the hill at Coors Field to face the Colorado Rockies and pitched arguably his best game of the season. He struck out five and only allowed four hits and one walk. My head went around the whole way.
“I don’t know what to say”.
Much of the Royals bullpen is still intact from last season, and if they can grab an ace starter guaranteed to start at least seven shutdown innings then that will give the bullpen an extra boost. Apparently a member of the Reds brass informed Lorenzen that Cueto was getting traded, which was news to Cueto.
Thus, adding a pitcher to the caliber of Cueto would solidify the Royals as perhaps one of, if not the most, dominant team in the American League.

Cueto reportedly wasn’t thrilled with the way he found out about the near trade, but he didn’t let that affect his performance.
