Johnny Cueto shuts down the Mets as Royals claim 2-0 lead
The Royals will try to ride their pitching to a commanding 3-0 lead when they visit the Mets for Game 3 of the World Series on Friday. The New York Mets were touted as the pitching-rich club heading into the World Series, but it is the Kansas City staff that has the upper hand so far.

Yet another easy out by the New York Mets. Kansas City won 5-4 in a wet 14-inning Game 1 marathon on Tuesday night. “We’ve got great confidence in him tomorrow night”. “When you realize your bullpen is pretty much spent and they’re pretty much burnt out, he went out there and put the team on his back”.
Kansas City Royals infielder Ben Zobrist and family are celebrating that his team is playing in the World Series, but also the new addition that will soon be joining their family.
Of deGrom’s 94 pitches, 23 were fouled off by the Royals.
But despite the Royals’ knack for making contact at incredible rate, Syndergaard said he plans to pitch to his strengths. He played 13 seasons in the big leagues and reached the postseason three times but never appeared on a World Series roster. His 20 strikeouts give him the best postseason strikeout rate on either team’s staff. “We have got to pick it up offensively”. “Hopefully we can get to him”. The Royals won each.
As our own A.J. Cassavell points out, there’s an “old adage” that says visiting teams in the playoffs should aim to merely “steal one on the road”. I know they are probably going to be pumped up, cheering on their boys.
“We’re not hitting. That’s what I see”, Collins said.
“I think it’s very possible to win it in four or five games”.
Two walks and a double play that was not turned helped the Mets score a run in the fourth. I use the word “suffered” loosely because a 3.44 earned run average and 176 strikeouts would be career years for plenty of pitchers. 802 OPS over 48 at-bats in these playoffs. But his last start was his best, allowing one run in 5.1 innings if the American League Championship Series clincher, and Royals manager Ned Yost is confident in his Game 3 starter.
Where Cueto looked outmatched going into the game against Mets ace Jacob deGrom, deGrom got battered in a four-run fifth inning. The loss of Volquez’s father makes it the third tragedy the have Royals faced in the past two months.
Even without Morales in Kansas City’s lineup, Syndergaard and the Mets face a tough proposition against the pesky Royals.
The Royals are seeking to overturn last year’s defeat in World Series to the San Francisco Giants to win their first title 30 years. The only Royal to have come to the plate against the rookie Syndergaard before tonight is Game 2 starter Johnny Cueto.

DeGrom, 3-0 in the post-season coming in, allowed four runs, six hits and three walks over five innings in a hairy matchup of pitchers with contrasting long locks. That is a situation they hope to avoid on Friday.
