Johnny Manziel, Travis Benjamin light up Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans

This week the Titans return home and will welcome in the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Or dismiss Marcus Mariota as another Heisman bust.

On to the Oakland Raiders next week at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack celebrates after the Browns… NFL analysts said last week that even when Manziel does something right with his “Johnny Football” improvisational skills, it often comes after he made a mistake from the pocket and was forced to try something else.

There was a shock at the Superdome where the New Orleans Saints suffered a 26-19 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom No 1 draft pick Jameis Winston claimed his first victory. The only credit given though is that halftime adjustments were successful enough to get back in the game, pulling to within 21-14 in the fourth quarter.

Thank you Travis Benjamin! Linebacker Barkevious Mingo scooped up the loose ball for Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Karlos Dansby (56) tackles Tennessee…

That is the subject of Mystery Theater this week at team headquarters in Berea — should the Browns go back to McCown if he clears concussion protocol, or do they reward Johnny Manziel with another start for the way he played against the Tennessee Titans? Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, left, looks on. The Browns didn’t get their pass-protection call right. Nothing is easy in Cleveland. With a 10-yard scoring pass to Stevie Johnson in the third quarter, Rivers notched the 255th touchdown of his career, breaking the mark he shared with Dan Fouts.

4 – Benjamin’s number of touchdowns through two games.

Manziel threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin on his first attempt and a 50-yarder, showing some of that old Johnny Football magic, to the wide receiver on his last with 2:52 left Sunday, leading the Browns to a 28-14 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were penalized eight times for 80 yards in the first half while the Browns were building a 21-0 lead.

The Cleveland Browns appear to be quite pleased with what they got out of Johnny Manziel on Sunday and may be ready to move him ahead of Josh McCown on the team’s depth chart. This is real life folks, not Madden on your video game.

Two things impressed me in this game.

McCown could be cleared to practice as soon as Tuesday.

Manziel, though, drove the Browns 80 yards for their last TD, getting it on the kind of play that made him famous in college – and at least for now – Cleveland’s guy. He kicked a field goal and a 48-yard extra point in the opener.

“I’m going to do whatever I’m told to do and whatever I’m asked to do”, said Manziel, who finished 8 of 15 for 172 yards and fumbled twice.

Stay tuned. Neither the Browns nor Manziel are generally boring. A sensation in his debut last week, Mariota was tested severely in his second and was far from ideal , but he kept his poise. Mariota said he was “good” and plans to play next week after the team said he played through an injured ankle. After bursting on the scene past year with 63 receptions for 824 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the team, Hawkins has compiled just six receptions for 67 yards through two games this season.
