Johnson begins first TV push with debates looming

Johnson is a former, two-term governor of New Mexico and is expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia as the nominee of the Libertarian Party.

The Libertarian ticket includes two former Republican governors, in Johnson of New Mexico and Bill Weld of MA, but McMullin said he couldn’t support them because “they’ve moved way left” in the general election.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels will lead the onstage discussion with Johnson at the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center. The poll found 32 percent of Johnson’s supporters are younger than 30, which is more than double Clinton’s 15 percent and Trump’s 12 percent.

“My sense is that they agree with the Supreme Court that we have an over-incarceration problem”, said Hughes, who chose to back the ticket after a 90-minute phone call with Weld, the former Republican governor of MA. The race is tight across the country, but perhaps most interesting is the success of Gary Johnson.

“As a New Mexican, he’s fairly well known in Arizona”, said Johnson’s spokesman, Joe Hunter. “I was reading. his page, his policy on vetoing things unless they were strictly necessary, leading to large savings”.

“It could happen”, said Flake.

“I’m for whoever has the best plan on startup companies”, said the 31-year-old who’s working on a business networking app. “I just didn’t want to play that game”.

Johnson is getting attention and support, particularly in the West. He calls his political philosophy a six-lane highway.

A couple of percentage points may not seem like a big deal right now, but then, that’s millions of potential voters to get off the fence.

McMullin said he’s asked his team to reach out to the rival campaigns about that possibility but isn’t sure if Johnson or Stein are open to it yet. These candidates are at a further disadvantage because the Commission on Presidential Debates is controlled by Democrats and Republicans. Though, based on current polling, he is not likely to make the presidential debate.

Johnson told reporters Thursday night that he thinks he can get to the 15 percent national polling number that would allow him to be in the first presidential candidate debate, which he said is vital.

The poll was conducted online by the Washington Post and Survey Monkey between August 9 and September 1; about 75,000 registered voters participated. “You can’t win the Super Bowl if you’re not in it”. The same could be true of libertarian-leaning, reluctant Trump supporters considering whether they should vote for Gary Johnson, for example.

“Ah, I hope so”, Gordon said.
