Johnson could be key player in the road to 270

“There is no chance that I have or (running mate) Bill Weld has of getting elected president or vice president without being in the presidential debate”, said Johnson, who is working to achieve the 15 percent polling threshold set by debate organizers for participation.

Outside of the contempt many people had for Trump and Clinton, Johnson would have Weld, a former MA governor, at his side.

Would you like Gary Johnson on the debate stage alongside Clinton and Trump? If Donald Trump loses the election in November, it will not be because of a Libertarian spoiler, but because of his own ineptitude in running a political campaign.

“The Libertarian Party requests that Fox News immediately pull all misleading ads, and refrain from making any public statements, which give the impression that only two candidates will be in the debates”. A Politico tally finds Johnson and Weld short; they have 9.2 percent average support in the polls chosen by the commission (though 12 percent in an Investor’s Business Daily poll last week).

Johnson says the next step in his campaign is to get onto the national debate stage. Here are two well-respected former governors who were Republican in Democratic-leaning states but who found ways to reach across the aisle to get things done.

Johnson needs 15 per cent support to join Trump and Clinton in the presidential debates.

But Johnson could move a close race toward Clinton, in much the same way that Ralph Nader pulled enough votes away from Democrat Al Gore in 2000 to hand Florida to Republican George W. Bush. In the same poll, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are tied with 39 percent vote, with Green Party candidate Jill Stein trailing all other candidates with just 3 percent of the vote.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch, which has been endorsing Republican presidential candidates since at least 1980, thinks its readers should avoid both major parties this time around.

The state’s junior senator, Jeff Flake, who had endeared himself to many Libertarians while serving in the House, won his bid for Senate that year, too. “We’re inclined to believe that could increase Johnson’s performance”. This company, Big J Enterprises, grew to be a multi-million dollar construction company and one of the largest employers in New Mexico by 1999.

During his remarks, Johnson – who ran as the Libertarian Party’s 2012 presidential nominee – touted policies aimed at ensuring economic, racial and marriage equality with less government intrusion into people’s lives and more money in their pockets with a streamlined and simplified tax system.

“We actually represent most Americans, fiscally conservative, socially inclusive, and skeptical when it comes to our military interventions” said Johnson.
