Trump and Clinton are both receiving double-digit negative net ratings in polls. He received roughly 1% of the vote, the best showing for the Libertarian Party to date.

Libertarians saw a meteoric rise in media coverage of their convention over the weekend.

In an interview on CNN’s “New Day”, Johnson laid out his political agenda for the “tens of millions of Americans who have no idea what it is to be a Libertarian”.

Libertarian candidates seem to like one another a lot more than Republican and Democratic candidates do.

On Sunday in Florida, delegates to the party’s convention picked Johnson over several other candidates. The audience roared in approval at the news. “I do pretty darn well”, Johnson said, citing polls by Fox News, Monmouth University and the Morning Consult earlier this month that had him around 10 percent in a three-way race.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday night.

Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson visited with supporters at The Bull restaurant in downtown Mobile, Ala., on Monday April 7, 2014. “One doesn’t have to be Never Trump to see that we were two of the most fiscally conservative governors in the United States”.

With Johnson already polling this well, he has a shot on getting on the stage in the general election debates. Johnson was also booed during the debates when he said that the free market bankrupted coal. How about a couple of skeptics at the table when it comes to our military interventions.

On the first ballot, Johnson missed the majority by less than a percentage point, at 49.514%. The closest competition came from Austin Petersen, who had 21 percent, and antivirus guru John McAfee, who had 14 percent.

Ahead of the first vote, Johnson lobbied the crowd to elect his choice for vice president. “So, we’ll explain to them and we’ll show them how involving government more is not the proper solution”.

Johnson pleaded with delegates to vote for Weld after securing his own nomination. The high unfavorables of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and America’s increased willingness to look beyond the Democratic and Republican parties. The party is also likely to be the only third-party option on the ballot in all 50 states this fall.
