Jon Stewart Evaluates His ‘Daily Show’ Success: “World Is Demonstrably Worse”

During his penultimate episode, Stewart showed headlines from articles that had been written about his previous episodes, in which words like “eviscerated” were used to describe the way he would present his views on a controversial topic. The donation, which will become part of the Newseum’s collection for future display, comes as Stewart signs off after 16 years hosting the popular show, which often blurred the lines between news, satire and comedy.

“Issues, pundits, politicians – we left no target disemboweled … we annihilated things”.

He declared that Fox News’ power is now gone, only to then air a clip announcing that the network would moderate this week’s Republican presidential primary debate.

He replaced the hardly remembered Craig Kilborn in 1999 and, with his team of writers, has led the show to what was really an unforeseeable level of notoriety. Thursday night will be Stewart’s last anchoring the popular fake-news show. Stewart rejected the offer at the time, saying, “I do not accept your peace offering”. Noah is an eloquent and talented comedian, and whether his comments reflect his true feelings or those of a man attempting to step into Stewart’s shoes, I couldn’t say. The world is demonstrably worse than when I started.

He’ll be at the Plaza in New York City on October 24 where he and his wife Tracey Stewart will be honored at the Farm Sanctuary gala.
