Jon Stewart gets sweet goodbye with Daily Show’s wins at Emmys

Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show just won the Emmy for best variety talk series. Also competing against late-night hotshots Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and John Oliver, the former “Daily Show” host spoke to press after his big win, reported Variety. “Cling on to television for as long as you can”, he said from the stage before noting the lack of craft service and applause in the real world. They are equals on the show (which was nominated for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and some writing awards), but apparently their performances are not equal in the eyes of Emmy nominators – only Mr. Key got the nod.

In addition to the overall award, the show claimed the Emmy for Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series. The rewards that the show received at the Emmys tonight cement The Daily Show’s place in television history, and will ensure that the people involved will be in high demand for years to come.

Regina King of “American Crime” won supporting actress honors for a limited series.

She added, “Oh, no, no, I’m so sorry: Donald Trump said that”.

After thanking Comedy Central for his television run, Jon had a potentially prophetic quip to the audience to end his speech.

“I can’t seem to get over that line”, she quoted Tubman as saying. The blood-soaked fantasy saga won a combined 12 Emmys on Sunday and at the previous creative arts awards, eclipsing the nine-awards record set by “The West Wing” in 2000. Julie Louis-Dreyfus won the top comedy actress award for “Veep”.

Allison Janney was honored at Sunday’s Emmy Awards as best supporting actress in a comedy for her role as a dysfunctional parent in “Mom”.

Frances McDormand accepts the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series Or A Movie for HBO’s “Olive Kitteridge” from presenter Rob Lowe at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California September 20, 2015.
