Jon Stewart Hosts WWE SummerSlam, Gives John Cena the Chair
So fans were shocked to learn that the satirist’s first high-profile gig since abandoning his desk would not be as host of a presidential debate, but rather master of ceremonies of WWE’s SummerSlam in Brooklyn-since World Wrestling Entertainment, with its phantom punches and strip club-quality acting, is the very definition of bullshit. Check out a full preview and some predictions.

Another theory: WWE knew ESPN was covering Summerslam. And while there’s no championships at stake in his rematch with Undertaker, there’s no denying that this bout – and Lesnar in particular – is the real selling point for an event billed as “too big for Wrestlemania” and that sold out shortly after tickets went on sale at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. There are four titles on the line (two in one match), nearly all of the biggest stars of the promotion are ready to perform, and there’s even an actor that will step into the squared circle.
Stewart served as the special host of SummerSlam, providing several comedic moments during his first public gig since leaving the “Daily Show“.
Amid chants of “Cena sucks”, Stewart darted into the ring with a folding chair late in the match, hitting Cena and allowing Hollins to pin him for the win.
-Rusev w/ Summer Rae and Dolph Ziggler w/ Lana fought to a no-contest (double countout). Rollins pulled out multiple moves that we haven’t seen out of him because he works as a heel.
Team PCB vs. Team Bella vs. Team B.A.D. Again, the wrestling part of the match isn’t bad, but imagine how much better it would be if the built-in feud wasn’t just one giant shrug emoji.
Take, for instance, Sheamus vs. Randy Orton. “It’s identical, and I think Vince McMahon is better at it than Dana”.
The booking of the finish just didn’t get the job done for me. Owens pinned Cesaro after a pop-up powerbomb. Los Matadores vs. The Lucha Dragons vs. The New Day vs. The Prime Time Players sounds puzzling enough at the best of times and isn’t helped by the odd “hot-tag” system wherein only two teams can be in the ring at a time. Surprisingly The New Day picked up the win. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose form a popular team against Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper in an abridged version of the old Shield-Wyatt family wars.
It would be the ideal call if Ambrose were to turn on Reigns to cost them the match. But as usual, it should be a pretty entertaining match. With Neville pinning Barrett, he and Stardust still haven’t settled their feud. Putting the belt on Miz or Big Show would be a step backward for the Intercontinental Title, and Ryback is ripe for a nice run as champion.

Seth Rollins consequently retained his WWE World Heavyweight Championship and won John Cena’s US Championship.
