Jon Stewart Retires After 17 Years as ‘Daily Show’ Host

After over a decade on the air, Stewart is ending his reign as host of The Daily Show in a one-hour finale episode that will air on Thursday night on Comedy Central. According to news reports, Mr. Stewart was summoned to the Obama White House twice – a sign of how much the president valued his opinion.

“Issues, pundits, politicians – we left no target disemboweled … we annihilated things”. I hope they do, as it can be a balm in hard times.

“Arby’s – technically it’s food”, Stewart has joked.

In a segment entitled “The Daily Show: Destroyer of Worlds”, Stewart played clips of himself mocking some of his favorite targets, including ISIS, racial tension in the U.S. and, of course, Fox News. “The world is demonstrably worse than when I started – have I caused this?” he pondered.

“Hath my efforts all been for naught?” he wondered. Or because I’m among the legions of Stewart’s 20-something fans. The first commercial above showcases some of Stewart’s better burns against the fast food company, capped with a fine rendition of The Golden Girls theme song.

He’ll be at the Plaza in New York City on October 24 where he and his wife Tracey Stewart will be honored at the Farm Sanctuary gala. Final guests have yet to be revealed for Stewart’s send-off, which will run about 50 minutes Thursday night, beginning at its usual 11 p.m. ET. “The Daily Show” also helped launch the careers of such comedy stars as Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and John Oliver.

Black South African Trevor Noah, heir to the anchor’s chair of “The Daily Show“, stepped in to defend Stewart, and characterized the fight as “exactly what the writers room is for”.
