Jordan Matthews Injury: Updates on Eagles Star’s Knee and Return

“It’s one that I’m not going to rush back”, Pederson said. “I know that injury can be a little discomforting, but at the same time we want to see where he is at”.

Jordan Matthews led the Philadelphia Eagles in receptions (85), receiving yards (997) and touchdowns (eight) in 2015.

If Matthews, who was hurt on August 5 during practice, misses the third preseason game, Pederson said he would likely still hold him out in the fourth preseason game with the rest of the starters as the regular season nears.

But Matthews said today, in his first media availability since his injury, he’s not upset with Jalen Mills’ low hit and he’ll be ready Week 1.

How Wentz looks throwing during this next week could influence Pederson’s decision on whether or not he plays next week against the Indianapolis Colts. So a knee injury early in training camp was a bad development for a team that’s thin at wide receiver, especially with a 2-4 week recovery timetable that put his status for Week 1 in doubt. Undrafted rookie Don Cherry will step in as the second-team middle linebacker in place of Walker, but Pederson said the team is surveying its options to add a veteran at the position.

Both players suffered concussions Thursday and won’t return to the field until they pass through the NFL-mandated concussion protocol.

Smallwood missed more than a week of practice with a quadriceps injury and though he returned to workouts last week, the Eagles held him out of Thursday’s game.

Fletcher Cox isn’t injured but has been excused by Pederson from the next couple days of practice following the death of his high school football coach in Mississippi.
